If you have to rate your self storage facility, what you rate it? What would your customers rate it? What about your employees?
If you have been in the self storage industry for longer than four seconds, you know that self storage is not a sexy business. People come sign into your office and sign a lease. They put their stuff inside a unit, lock the door and pay you each month. If you are lucky, that is as exciting as your business will get. The self storage industry as a whole has predictable income, expenses, and returns for your investors. You can plan out your entire year of cash flow with confidence. Self storage as an industry would never be in a bar at all. It would be home on a Friday night reading a book. It would be doing a puzzle or knitting a sweater. Let’s just face it. Self storage isn’t a very sexy business.
This is a blessing and the curse. Because our industry is so predictable, owners get bored. They rate their facility a 6 or an 8 and are happy to leave well enough alone. They don’t want to make the changes necessary to get their business up to a Perfect 10. In my 10 years in the self storage industry, every single business that I have worked with could be making more money. Every single one.
